You probably have experienced many times in your life that using shiny and new technology for something could actually backfire. I’m building a website, https://saasshed.com, to document my journey of building SaaS, and I’m intentionally avoiding using new and shiny tools like static site generators or headless CMS. Instead, I’m using tried and true tool – WordPress, which has been around since 2003 and powers around 30% of all websites on the Internet.
You know – your customers, your readers, and your followers don’t care what technology is used on your website. They don’t even care what technologies are used for your product. They are interested in the result you are providing. In the case of a website, the content is most important part.
If the purpose of your website is to provide information about your product, and the content is great, and the website technically delivers 80% of what shiny and new technology can provide, then it’s good.
The benefit of boring tech is that it is widely adapted, and that means there is documentation, there are courses, there are related tools and extensions, there are communities, and there are people who can help you deal with it.
When I’m choosing technology, I often try to be pragmatic and choose the tools that let me get to the result faster, easier, and even cheaper.
